Fat Transfer

The Fat grafting/fat transfer surgery involves taking the fat from an unwanted area of the body and re-injecting purified fat tissue in the desired area of the body.

This surgery is done to add fullness to an area. It is commonly used for face, lips, buttocks, breast and hands.

Following people can undergo a fat transfer surgery:

  • People with depressed facial scars.

  • People suffering from the diseases like hemifacial atrophy that results in decreased facial volume.

  • Ageing effects like sunken cheeks, wrinkles, or crow's feet.

  • Small and depressed areas in sections of the body.

  • Under eye bags or dark circles.

Expected Outcome

  • Improved body contour.

  • Reduced scarring.

  • Enhanced features.

Procedure

  • Fat transfer surgery is performed on an outpatient basis under the influence of local anaesthesia.

  • The areas from which the fat is taken and the treatment site are sensitized before the procedure.

  • A small needle is used to remove fat from an area of the body.

  • This fat is then processed by removing excess fluids.

  • Post processing, it is injected under the skin using another needle.

Post Operation Care

  • Some swelling and discomfort post surgery which is controlled using oral medications.

  • Avoid pressure in the fat injection area for next couple of weeks.

  • Blood vessels take 4 days to grow in the graft and another 2 to 3 days to strengthen.

  • The extracellular matrix surrounding the fat graft reaches enough strength to withstand minor stresses in 2 to 3 weeks.

  • You can return to work in a week.
