Gender Reassignment Surgery or Sex Change Surgery or Sex Reassignment surgery is a surgical procedure to change the function and appearance of a person's genetical and align it to his or her identity.
The following is a minimum requirement to start the hormonal therapy:
You must be above 18 years or have a parental release form.
You must be in a stable frame of mind and be living in society as the new desired external appearance for at least 3 months.
You have done a consultation & counselling with a psychiatrist for at least 3-months in order to rule out any abnormal mental condition.
If you have an approval of psychiatrist to undergo hormonal therapy.
You should have an affidavit (notarized) citing that you are a major and you truly understand the surgery.
The following is a minimum requirement to start the genital surgery:
You must be above 18 years or have a parental release form or spouse release form if married.
You must be in a stable frame of mind and be living in society as the new desired external appearance for at least 12 months.
You have done a consultation & counselling with a psychiatrist for at least a year and have approvals from two independent psychiatrists to rule out any abnormal mental status.
You should have an affidavit (notarized) citing that you are a major and you truly understand the surgery and can take decisions for the same.
Female to Male or F to M (Trans Male)
It has the following stages:
Excision of breast, salpingo-oophorectomy, hysterectomy & excision of vagina (in Single or two stage, depending on completion of formalities).
Penile reconstruction / Metoidioplasty.
Placement of penile implants for penile erection.
Each stage has a gap of 4 to 6 months to make sure each area is properly healed. Further stages may be required to fine tune the primary results.
Male to Female or M to F (Trans Female) GAS
It has the following stages:
First stage surgery involves – orchiectomy, creation of vagina/labia/clitoris from penile skin / scrotal skin/glans, creation of neourethral opening (+ breast implants if required).
Note: feminization/masculinization surgeries are considered cosmetic.
